The quality of the NUIN program-- not only in terms of the scientific
training, but also the overall experience-- depends critically on good communication between NUIN leadership and NUIN
students. One way this is accomplished is via the NUIN Student Advisory Committee (NSAC). The NSAC meets with NUIN leadership formally at least once a quarter. In addition to representing and advocating for the views and needs of their peers, NSAC representatives are expected to serve as student leaders by helping to organize student participation in NUIN activities such as the annual retreat and recruiting events.
Each fall the NSAC representatives are elected as follows: 2 from the 1st year class, 2 from the 2nd year class, and 2 representing students in their 3rd year or beyond. One postdoc representative will also be
chosen. Representatives from each group are elected by students of that group, and serve for one year.
Note: Since the NSAC was established in summer of 2007, the 2007-8 year elections and membership will be anomalous. The initial 6 predoc members elected in summer 2007 will continue to serve until fall 2008. Two representatives from the class entering in fall of 2007 will be elected in fall 2007. A postdoc representative will also be elected at that time. This will temporarily increase the size of the committee to 9 for the twelve month period between elections in fall of 2007 and fall of 2008.
